A Slinger / Signaller plays a critical role in lifting operations by attaching loads to lifting equipment and communicating clear signals to the crane operator. Their responsibilities include selecting the correct lifting accessories, ensuring loads are securely attached, guiding the crane operator during lifting movements, and maintaining safe exclusion zones to protect workers nearby.

Yes. Anyone responsible for operating an overhead crane should receive proper training to ensure they understand safe lifting practices, equipment controls, and load handling procedures. Training helps operators identify hazards, carry out equipment checks, and coordinate safely with slingers or signallers during lifting operations.

While regulations do not specify a fixed timeframe, it is generally recommended that lifting operations training is refreshed periodically to maintain competence. Refresher training may also be required if there are changes in equipment, workplace procedures, or if an operator has not used the equipment for an extended period.

Our lifting operations training typically covers equipment such as:

  • Overhead cranes (pendant and remote controlled)

  • Lorry mounted loaders

  • Lifting accessories such as chains, slings, hooks, and shackles

  • Load attachment and lifting equipment used in construction and industrial environments

Training focuses on safe use, inspection, and correct selection of lifting accessories.

ProGuard Training provides lifting operations training across the North West and North Wales, including Manchester, Liverpool, Cheshire, Lancashire, Cumbria, and surrounding areas. Training can be delivered on-site using your lifting equipment, ensuring delegates develop competence in their actual working environment.
